Jean-Claude Mas has blazed the trail for premium winemaking in the Languedoc region of the South of France. Since taking the helm of the centuries-old Domaines Paul Mas in 2000, his driving mission has been to use only premium quality grapes to craft superior wines with a modern, New World flair. Above all else, this innovative, fourth-generation vintner strives to make wines with authenticity and refinement, the end result of which is a family of magnificently charming wines that burst with personality and express their unique terroir.
In 2012, Jean-Claude’s philosophy of “Luxe Rural” -- an appreciation of the simple pleasures of life, artfully rendered by nature – crystallized with the opening of the Côté Mas Restaurant. Côté Mas wines were first introduced at the restaurant and became so popular that they are now available for purchase worldwide.
There is a little road along the Martinollet small river that winds through garrigue, vineyards and olive trees, and takes you to Côté Mas. This modest estate sits in a region rich with heritage. Indeed, close by is the Saint Hilaire Abbey, where, back in 1531, the sparkling wine method was actually discovered. The first bubble, Prima Perla, was born! Then you have the legacy of the Cathar people, those men and women persecuted by the Catholic Church in the medieval times, a period in history that forged both the character and the landscapes of the place. Lastly, the rugged climate and topography create superb terroirs that produce fine chardonnay, mauzac or pinot noir grapes. Our cuvees reflect this heritage; our wines are faithful to their terroir and origins.
