Château de La Mulonniere

Château de la Mulonnière is located 25 km from Angers, in the prestigious Beaulieu-sur-Layon area of the Anjou appellation in the heart of the Loire Valley. Jean-Louis Saget literally fell in love with this beautiful, early twentieth century property and detecting the
obvious quality potential of its terroirs, decided to buy it in 2003.

HISTORY

Château de la Mulonnière is a historic wine estate in the Loire Valley producing excellent wines since 1860. Acquired by the Saget family in 2002, the property boasts exceptional terroirs in the most prestigious appellations of the Angers region. Stretching from one side of the country to the other, the river of kings has been the homeland of the Saget family for nine generations.

TERROIR

Bordered by the Layon on one side and vineyards on the other, Château de la Mulonnière is a perfect illustration of the relaxed charm of the Anjou lifestyle. In 2002, the Saget family set its heart on this historic wine estate which produces some of the region’s most prestigious appellations such as Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume since 1860. Sustainable viticulture is used in the vineyard with the aim of rendering a true portrayal of the estate’s magnificent terroirs. Chenin blanc, Château de la Mulonnière’s emblematic grape variety, fully displays its versatility through wine styles that range from dry to semi-dry and sweet. The Loire Valley stretches from one side of the country to the other, covering a wide variety of terroirs as do the wines of Saget La Perriere. Starting in the East in Pouilly- sur-Loire, the family has assembled the finest terroirs, the estate represents roughly 25 acres of vines spread perfectly across the most highly prized localities of the appellation namely; vaurigny, Les Chantalouettes, les Fougeres and Les Roches, which are largely composed of calcareous clay and kimmeridgian marl soils. 

 

PEOPLE

Benoît Dufour is a man of the soil. The son of a wine grower, he validated his skills by passing a diploma in viticulture and oenology. Benoît became manager of Château de la Mulonnière in 2002 after gaining work experience in several places in Anjou, leading him to become a true specialist of the Chenin blanc grape variety.
