Since 1626, the Trimbach family has been promoting the history, exceptional terroirs and fine wines of Alsace. Maison Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, where today three generations work closely together. Day-to-day operations are handled personally by brothers Pierre and Jean Trimbach, representing the 12th generation. Bernard and Hubert Trimbach, the 11th generation (father and uncle, respectively, to Pierre and Jean) remain integrally involved. Anne, the eldest of the 13th generation, has just joined the family business.
The Trimbachs have a purist vision. Across 12 generations, the family has always produced wines that are structured, long-lived, fruity, elegant and balanced: the celebrated Trimbach style. Bottles remain in the cellar for several years before reaching the marketplace, ensuring the wines are both ready to drink upon release but also hold great aging potential.
This “Gold Label” Gewurztraminer is named in honor of the Lords of Ribeaupierre, who governed much of Alsace during the Middle Ages, and whose ruined castles still dot the foothills of the Vosges above the village of Ribeauvillé. Cuvee des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre is produced only in vintages when the Trimbach family believes that the quality is high enough.
The soil at the Trimbach’s vineyards in the town of Ribeauvillé, part of the Grands Crus Osterberg, is very stony limestone over a base of sandstone at 250 to 350 meters above sea level. The well-drained argilo-calcaire soil over a deep sandstone base supports vines with an average age of 40 years.
The grapes are picked by hand as late as possible in order to achieve maximum ripeness which, in turn, gives optimum depth of flavor and complexity after gentle pressing in a pneumatic press. The juice runs into the cellar by gravity and clarifies naturally prior to fermentation. The juice ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperature for 2-3 weeks. Cuvee des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre is vinified nearly to complete dryness, the beautiful balance the result of highly concentrated fruit, due to a very low yield.
