John Belsham founded Foxes Island in 1992 to focus on exquisitely made, regionally expressive wines; exactly what he had learned to do in France. he initially made the wines for foxes island from his Rapaura vineyard on the Wairau plains and produced the very first foxes island wine: chardonnay, vintage 1992. 24 years on, Belsham’s passion for producing exceptional wines has yet to wane; limited in production and genuinely hand crafted, all the wines hold pride of place at the fox house.

Vinification
A very balanced, growing year with wonderful flavor concentration at ripeness, the fruit was hand-picked, chilled, destemmed & lightly pressed. The juice was fermented in a combination of stainless steel and neutral French oak barrels. Allowed to age on lees for 9 months, the wine was blended and bottled under strict anaerobic conditions to retain purity & freshness.

Taste
Refined and elegant, the single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc has flavors of white peach, zesty lime, ripe alpine herbs and wet crushed stone with a fine creamy texture that finishes long and lovely. Cellared prior to release, this wine will continue to age for several years.
