John Belsham founded Foxes Island in 1992 to focus on exquisitely made, regionally expressive wines; exactly what he had learned to do in France. he initially made the wines for foxes island from his Rapaura vineyard on the Wairau plains and produced the very first foxes island wine: chardonnay, vintage 1992. 24 years on, Belsham’s passion for producing exceptional wines has yet to wane; limited in production and enuinely hand crafted, all the wines hold pride of place at the fox house.

100 % Sauvignon Blanc
The vines were hand tended throughout the growing season. Once the fruit achieved ripeness, the clusters were hand harvested and chilled to 4°c. The fine, free-run juice was cut at the press and transferred to large neutral French oak barrels to begin a naturally slow, indigenous ferment. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was blended, bottled and allowed to age for two years in the cellar prior to release.
Lapine, French for a “lady rabbit” is the first white wine in the Icon Series. It has taken a team of great minds, a special vineyard and a natural approach to produce a wine that transcends the conventional and yields something truly special. The wine has a silky texture and incredible length that draws out concentrated flavors of white peach, lime blossom and orange peel with hints of river stone.
